JOMA 2010 SOUTHWEST CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT:
ADVANCE WARNING OF TOURNAMENT DATE CHANGE.
TOURNAMENT ORGANISERS SEE MAJOR BENEFITS FROM ENFORCED DATE CHANGE.
________________________
Immediately following the scheduled meeting earlier today of the 2010 Tournament Executive, Tournament Secretary HEATHER SCHOFIELD confirmed that the Tournament would now take place in North Devon ONE WEEK later than had been previously planned.

Heather confirmed that several factors had had to be carefully weighed when choosing the original dates of the Tournament including the concluding phases of the WORLD CUP, annual schools vacation dates and a larger than expected schedule of ground works at a number of the Host Club Venues. Having reviewed all of the circumstances, together with the availability of Hotel accommodation and the latest reports on Training facilities, JOMA SPORT, the Tournament Director and the Executive jointly endorsed the date change.
THE JOMA 2010 Southwest Challenge Cup will now commence on MONDAY 19TH JULY and conclude on SUNDAY 25TH JULY.

The one week delay enables each of the host Clubs to complete vital maintenance works, pitch renewal and other preparations ahead of their own domestic playing season. Similarly with the selected Training pitches, which require longer than expected time to recover from a long and sustained winter, and in some cases an extended playing season.

HEATHER explained further:
We were very concerned to ensure that any change would in no way affect the quality of Clubs accepting invitations to play in the 2010 Tournament; for that reason we advised all Clubs of the later date and I am delighted to confirm that with ONE exception, the date sits comfortably with those who expect to join the final line-up. JOMA are somewhat relaxed as their plans are in no way compromised and like us, they want to see the strongest line-up of clubs, training and competing at first-class venues, with larger attendances where possible.

This announcement will help all those who are either planning their vacation dates or hoping to visit North Devon once the final line-up of Clubs is formally declared.

To complete the update from today’s meeting, I can confirm also that whilst invited Clubs have until 31st March to reply/accept their invitation, we already know the identity of the majority of the competing clubs, not bad progress for just over two weeks I think you will agree. I cannot confirm yet the identity of those Clubs, but you can be sure that they include more than one surprise for local and visiting football supporters.
